Sample TAT story:

Aman is social worker, working for NGO prayass india,which helps children to have free education, house and food, he came to his friends uncles house for some donation to his NGO,they all were having fun by playing cards when aman saw a child age between 10-12 years serving tea and snacks to them and rude behaviors of uncle towards child, aman clarified with his friend about the child and got to know that child is working in uncle house from past 1 month, he explained the uncle about the crime he is doing, and made him satisfied he shouldn’t be doing again and he rescued the child got him admitted to his NGO.

Sonu is a chief engineer and is working in R&D department for maruti in gurgaon,he had prepared a design of fuel efficient car and all of them have gathered in the conference room for the presentation to be given by sonu,after sonu finished his presentation questions arised from his members about the design and to execute it, will it be working practically, would it feasible to common man, sonu answered them all and convinced most members of the board some of them were not convinced had put their head down, sonu convinced them about his plans and executing them and finally his plan was approved by the company chairman.

Ram is a medical student studying in Gandhi medical college,it was raining heavily in the month of july ,he was at home when he heard someone knocking his door hard,it was his neighbor children asking for help for their mother who is suffering from heart attack,he immediately gave some relief injection and went out in heavy rain fall and winds to call for ambulance,after 45 minutes of harsh travel he reached the hospital and came back with ambulance admitted the mother into the hospital and saved her life,and said to have regular checkup to avoid such circumstances.

            The border is tensed and an operation is to be launched. Vikram is given the daunting task by the Commanding Officer, to take a detachment of troops and capture a light machine gun post at peak 2025.he starts climbing alone with the troops with arms and ammunition, maps, binoculars, etc. the going is very tough due to steep climb, mountain gradients, slippery way, extreme weather conditions, low visibility and high wind velocity. There is lot of causality and firing to taking palace on both side and enemy position. Captain Vikram did not deter and keep on motivating his troops and reached the peak. The captured the point 2050 after having a head to head battle with the enemy over powered and gain victory over the enemy.  He send the victory signals to Commanding Officer and he alone with his detachment is applauded for their good job.         As Ravi is coming back to home from his college in the evening, suddenly he sees a speeding car collided with a Tonga, while the Tonga driver is trying to cross the road. Lot of people gathered at spot immediately. The Tonga driver and Passengers were seriously injured and car driver also sustained minor injuries. The Tonga driver and the occupants of carriage were crying in pain and lot of blood is flowing profusely, everybody wanted to help them, Ravi used his presence of mind and without any delay arranged for first aid and medication and evacuation of the injured person’s along with the help of the people around. He also informed the relatives of the injured and insured medication and regular visits to the Hospital. After few days he introspect the course of accident and revealed to himself that it is due to lack of speed breakers and poor lighting signals. He put up the plea to the regional transport Authority and his request is accepted and within a period of 5-6 months he is happy that suitable speed breakers and lighting signals have been erected and it is no more and accident prone area. He is happy and satisfied with his action.

Instructions for writing a TAT story

SSB: THEMATIC APPRECIATION TEST

The test starts with exposure of 12 pictures with the help of over head projector/video with 30 sec exposure and practically four minutes for extensive writing .The stimulus is shown, and the instructions are given exhaustive manner by the psychologist. The guidelines are comprehensive and cover all facets of Thematic Appreciation Test. The showing of pictures and the time schedule is manually regulated, so that there is no error involved in testing.

            Before proceeding for the live test, a demonstrative performance is exhibited and general modalities of conduct of test are discussed and explained to the students comprehensively. The candidates are required to take the instructions and comply as per the laid down norms. The stimulus is shown for one minute, and thereafter four minutes are the give for written portion of the story.

This article will help you alot in how to write better stories. Read all the instructions carefully and then practice from my sample PPDT stories and Sample TAT stories.

HOW TO WRITE A STORY IN TAT AND PPDT

Some of you think that even though your story was good, you didn't get selected. What is the reason behind that? the reason is some of us don't know what to write and we write what we think is awesome, unfortunately assessor don't like your story though it was amazing according to you.

The Thematic Apperception Test (TAT)

The Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) gives an opportunity in the form of a Stimulus to the individual to project his personality in terms of free verbal Responses with regard to the pictures, he sees and the plot that he may weave around the picture. It is not a fact based test, rather it is based on opinion, emotions, value and attitude of the person. What color and

combination are given to the story, which aspects are dominated, does the individual show value, emotions, helping attitude, sacrifice, faithfulness with full of challenges, is all seen through this test. For these aspects, one is required to go beyond the obvious. Going beyond the obvious will enhance the imagination process and imagination has no prescriptional limit. It is well said Your Imagination can take you places, which you can't even imagine!

TAT- What, Why and How? TAT is purely based on your Perception. So far as the definition goes -

Perception - It is the process by which individuals organize and interpret their sensory impressions in order to give meaning to their environment.

TAT basically requires you to perceive a Thema or Story. The story requires a Hero, who must face challenges and risk, but should not fail. Depending on the situational crisis, the hero may face the failure for time being, but finally he should succeed. There is no Courage without challenges and risks; there is no Motivation without failure and setbacks. 

Basic Requirement In TAT and PPDT Stories 

There should be a match between you and your hero, because the hero is your alter-ego, your deployed leader who should represent you 100%. There must be a minimum distance between you and your hero. There should be a similarity between age, sex and character. There may be a possibility of difference in perception, emotions and ability, but not in terms of the achievement. To be precise, your hero's achievement is the manifest of your own achievement.

Description: It is the picture of a young man pointing out at another person, who is seen running. It is an evening or night scene.
Story:
Due to meager representation of youngsters in the recruitment drive of the Army conducted recently, Suresh Kolte, a sports coach started to train the youngsters of Satana village in Maharashtra. In the month of Feb 12, 2008, he started with one boy. After a week the strength went to five. He scheduled morning and evening hours for exercises/race and day/evening for written preparation leaving 6 to 8 hours for other activities. For the entire Feb month, he made them familiar with written and physical tests. Right from March 1, he made the entire course competitive. He started pointing towards the best one to follow the speed and maintain the time in physical as well as written practice session. In the month of April, out the 5 boys, 4 got selected in the recruitment drive organized by the Army at the Southern Command, Pune. Seeing the results, many youngsters joined the centre and started taking training for the next batch.

Interpretation

The Hero under took the challenge, chose the undriven field in that locality (challenging ability). For the said ability, one has to go beyond the duty, which is sense of responsibility. In most of the case, the sense of responsibility is often dubbed with the risk taking ability, which this hero had. His punctuality, dedication of fixing the schedule and training program reveals his planning and organizing ability. Pointing the best one to be followed by the rest one shows competitive ability and motivation. With his hard work and sacrifice, he creates an exemplary result that would mean leadership by example. Seeing the result, youngsters of neighboring villages got themselves motivated and joined the training centre shows the motivation level and inspiration.

The scene is very emotional and sentimental; his eyes were moist but gleaming with the tears of joy as well as pain of separation. He again looked back at his brother who is waving his hand towards him and having tears in his eyes of joy, realizing that his brother will one day give a bright name to their family and the nation. It is his childhood dream to become an army Officer. Finally, the time has come and he seeks blessing of his brother and proceeds for training. He reached the academy and after completing his rigorous training, he became an effective officer in the Indian Army and serving the nation in J&K sector.

He along with three NCC students went to Uttar Kashi, which is totally forested area. Abundance flora and fauna all around, and early morning weather is pleasant. He is leading the boys and checks the complete area suitable for camp and finds a river close to the camping ground which has been ear marked river close to the camping ground which has been ear marked as a suitable area. He collected all the information and data about the place, went back and informed his senior officer and gave all the vital information about the site. His officer is happy with his work. Thereafter, the NCC students went to the camp site and enjoyed their extensive tenure in the camping area. The selection of the camp area proved to be successful, and Vikram always volunteered to organize such events.

Terrorism is a global evil and J&K sector is also terror affected. Capt. Aditya is posted in the J&K sector. He came to know through intelligence sources about the enemy position of the terrorist camps on top of mountainous range planning for bomb explosion during Independence Day celebration. He immediately along with some sub-ordinates as directed by commanding officer, gained relative information about the possible terrorist camps take maps, satellite photographs, binoculars, etc. started the mission to eliminate the possible areas to terrorist incursions. The going is very tough due to extreme weather condition, low visibility and high wind velocity, they reach at the preplanned peak, and the terrorist were hiding at the lower sites. One day when he is in the process of swimming and wanted to extra length but, but due to the heavy flow and fast current he lost his balance. He tried to regain his balance but of no avail. He developed some cramps and running short of breath, he raised his hand and started yelling for help. Vikram immediately drive into the river and tried to catch Arjun. But due to fast current of water, and with great difficulty he is able to do so, pulled Arjun to outside the river and took him to the bank of river. he arranged his first aid evacuation and medication and ensure his fitness Vikram is very happy and satisfied that he is not only able to save the swimmer but also advised and guided Arjun to built up his physical stamina to meet such eventualities. Arjun after recovering took extensive practice come out with flying colors in swimming championship, by putting extra effort and improving his swimming skills.

Leena is studying in B.A. III. During her vacation she visited her village. The outskirts of the village were lying barren with no cultivation. Deforestation is removing the tree line. She found women folk pulling log of wood to bring it to their home. On enquiring she realized that felling of trees is being used in kitchen for cooking purposes. She asked them not to use it, since it not only create breathing problems, but also resulted as deforestation. Leena thought over the problem, and wanted to find solution by introducing the essentials of solar cookers in the region. Firstly, it will result in healthy cooking and living, and there by stop deforestation in region. Leena, visited the village area, educated the masses and captured the essentials of the sun rays for cooking which is cost effective. The point is well taken by the villagers. Leena brought awareness and prosperity by introducing good and healthy living.

Comments

The stimulus depicts a village girl seeking ways and means to improve the general living conditions in the surrounding areas. The female is well read and achieves her mission in education the villagers about modern techniques and use of solar emission to bring changes in the existing circumstances leading to deforestation and smoky outfit. One of my classmate asked me to write a TAT story on this picture-A lady with Pitcher in her Hands. When i say this TAT picture first time i got confused that how to write on it. It took me some time to write a sample story on this scene. I have putted the same for you.

        Sadhna is transferred as a collector of Mathura district. While visiting various places, she observed that number of pilgrims is very low at a particular Ghat. She inquired the reason and found that the stones were too any, which result is lot of miss happenings. She decided to overcome it. Initially she got removed the broken stones, made arrangements for seating on both sides of the Ghat. The main entrance to the Ghat is given face lift with cementing and proper stairs to bath and reach the water. Separate enclosures were made to cater for men and women. Funds were raised through social organization and government support. Special appointment of expert divers is catered. She also got arrangement of different cultural activities of different states. Now the number of pilgrims is started increasing. She is happy that proper utilization of the existing resources and volunteer effort of the people, helped her staff to later to the heavy traffic and people and revenue started flowing to the agencies for further development.

Inderjeet is a social worker. After his post graduation he visited the village near to his city. He found that people were illiterate in great number. He decided to educate them by imparting basic teaching. He met village Sarpanch, and addressed the village gathering. He gave the people the importance of education. People agreed and showed their desire for learning. He started from the basics of literacy, i.e. reading, writing and arithmetic. After a continuous and regular hard work now 90 per cent villagers were literate. After completing his task, he moved to another village and applied the same procedure. He realized that in a short duration of few months, many people had been educated. The village and the community became prosperous. Inderjeet did not stop. He encouraged the remote villagers to read regularly informed them about the opportunities provided by the government towards literacy campaign and free education for the children. He achieved his aim with dedication and devotion.

        Deepak’s father is having transferable job. He is having many friends for his previous station. One day he got a letter from his friend Dev that he will be coming to his city for an exam. It is early morning; Deepak is quite excited to welcome his friend. There is lot of activity at the station. The summer rush could be felt after seeing the passengers and vendors at eh platform. Slowly, the train arrived, Deepak received his friend, shared the togetherness, reached home, got him introduced to his family members. On the next day after exam, they went to visit different picnic spots in the city, and showed him various historical monuments and also introduced hi with his others friends. The stay is comfortable for Dev. One the day of his departure, he went to see him off to the railway station. Bid good bye to his coveted friend and expected him to visit him again.

The story in such cases should be made, based on planning any work, which can help others and may bring development in society.

        Chander and suresh are working in a resort. Chander is responsible for financial portion. While observing the reports he found that the number of visitors is at decline during summer season. He decided to overcome it. He met his friend suresh and authorities told them on their plans for re introduce water sports in the resort. Water sports were existing but due to poor infrastructure and maintenance, they had been discontinued for some time. The financial aspect is acutely monitored and he felt that improving the infrastructure and better management could lead to progress. His plan within the existing infrastructure is approved. Chander made arrangements for boating, swimming, water rides, etc. the management got the new project inaugurated by a gift scheme for visitors. The number of visitors has increased. The water sports were liked by all, and it again becomes a centre of attraction on holidays and Sundays. Chander felt happy to revive the institution.

In such cases of heat exhaustion and road accidents some one has to take responsibility of helping the affected person like in this Rakesh played a role of central character.

        Rakesh is returning after attending his computer classes. It is the month of June and day is very hot. While coming he notice a boy staggering and falling down due to hear stroke. He rushed to help him. Lot of people had gathered around, and all wanted to help the boy who had developed fever and is seen in pain and anguish. As he went closer, he found that he is virtually going unconscious and required immediate medical attention. He sprinkled some water from his bottle over his face, loosened his shoes and shirt. He dampened his hanky in water and put over his forehead. The boy regained his consciousness. Rakesh with the help of others took him to the hospital, informed his parents. He also advised his to drink lot of fluids, as it will help him in early recovery. After completing his task he returned to his home. He realized the importance of protection against hear stroke virtually he felt happy that he has been able to help a boy in distress.
